DIRECTIONS FOR THE EXAMINATION

The purpose of the exam is to find out how well you can approach the given question(s) and write an essay.

Listed below, along with some instructions are a few ideas and hints which will assist you execute your finest on the essay.

1. Read the questions vigilantly.

2. Begin setting up your paper as soon as you have been given the exam question. Making an outline or notes about your plans might prove helpful.

In general, the passing essay will have a central idea that is directly related to the assigned question; have a clear organizational plan; develop points with evidence and details in a coherent, logical, and non-repetitious way; and avoid frequent or serious errors in grammar, word choice, and sentence structure.

4. Allow yourself a little time at the end of your writing to check your paper and make any needed changes.

5. You must type your essay. Essays written in pen/pencils will not be graded.

Question 1 (10 marks):

By considering the American Nurses Association (ANA) Scope and Standards of Professional Practice (PPS), in your opinion and from your clinical experience:

(1) Are there any discrepancies between these standards and their application in the real work setting?

(2) Are these standards implemented either explicitly or implicitly?

(3) In your opinion, what are the most important standards?

(4) Are you satisfied with such PPS? Explain your point of view and provide suggestions that you might consider?

Question 2 (15 marks): Being a director of nursing, (1) what are the essential standards for creating a healthy work environment? (2) How can you employ and benefit from such environment in improving and fostering communication skills for your staff?

Question 3 (15 marks): It is well documented that leadership plays a pivotal role in having an effective management and administration. Taking that into consideration; (1) Discuss deliberately the relationship between style of leadership and staff satisfaction? (2) Explain how such relationship affects the performance appraisal and evaluation of the staff?
