If their weight has not decreased from the previous day most of their day is ruined. They skip meals and focus on an intense workout routine. Symptoms of anorexia nervosa include refusal to eat, intense fear of gaining weight, excessive workout, irritability, low blood pressure, dehydration, thin appearance, preoccupation with food and difficulty sleeping.
Bulimia is another eating disorder in which episodes of binging and purging occur. During binging and purging episodes a person eats a large amount of food in short time period and tries to get rid of extra calories gained by vomiting or excessive exercise. Signs of bulimia disorder may include excessive exercise, using laxatives, low self-esteem, negative body image, dehydration, irregular heartbeat, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, abnormal bowel function and self-induced vomiting.
When a person has binge eating disorder he tends to eat excessively but does not try to reduce weight through excessive exercise or starving. A person with binge eating disorder may eat food even when he is not hungry and may continue to eat until he is painfully full. After binging a person may feel guilty or ashamed triggering a new round of binging. A person with binge eating disorder may have a normal weight, obese or overweight. Symptoms of binge eating disorder include eating excessively to the point of being uncomfortable, eating alone most of the time, feeling guilty over the amount of food eaten, feeling that eating behavior is out of control.
