Purpose

Requirements

Description of the Assignment

This assignment provides an opportunity for the student to develop one’s own professional vision statement. Providing a concise, outcome-oriented, one-sentence statement, the student identifies one’s vision for the nursing profession in general. The identified vision statement requires scholarly support and development of a plan for implementation.

Criteria for Content

1. Introduction

The introduction requires the following information.

• Identify the role of a vision statement
• Create a one sentence vision statement that is:

o concise and,

o outcome-oriented

o focused on professional nursing in general

• Identify the sections of this assignment
• Scholarly nursing references are required to explain and support provided information

1. Identification of key concepts present with vision

This section requires the following information.

• Restate created vision statement
• Identify and explain the key concepts within the created nursing vision
• Provide4 (four)scholarly nursing references that explain and support key concepts with

created vision

• Apply created vision statement to the nursing profession, in general in a comprehensive manner

1. Evaluation of selected nursing vision statement

This section requires the following information.

• Provide specific answers to each of the following questions:

o How can this vision statement be used to foster a common purpose among your fellow nurses?

o How can this vision statement be used to motivate your fellow nurses?

o How can this vision statement be used to foster collaboration with non-nursing healthcare workers?

• Provide a self-reflection if you would change your created vision statement. Why or why not?
• Provide scholarly nursing references for each of the answers to the above questions

1. Impact or importance of the created vision to the nursing profession, in general

This section requires the following information.

• Discuss why a vision is important to nursing leadership
• Provide2 (two)specific and detailed examples of how the created vision can impact the nursing profession in a positive manner
• Provide a specific plan that would implement the vision within an organization
• Provide scholarly nursing references to support and explain identified examples

This section requires the following information.

• Restatement of created vision statement

• Self-reflection on the knowledge gained from creating a vision statement applicable to professional nursing in general

Preparing the Assignment

Criteria for Format and Special Instructions

1. The paper (excluding the title page and reference page) should be at least 3, but no more than 5 pages. Points will be lost for not meeting these length requirements.
2. A minimum of4(four) scholarly nursing references must be used. A dictionary, required textbooks for this course, and Chamberlain College of Nursing lesson information may NOT be used as scholarly references for this assignment. References are current – within a 5-year time frame unless a valid rationale is provided and the instructor has approved them.
3. Title page, running head, body of paper, and reference page must follow APA guidelines as found in the 6^thedition of the manual. This includes the use of headings for each section of the paper except for the introduction where no heading is used.
4. Ideas and information that come from scholarly sources must be cited and referenced correctly.
5. Rules of grammar, spelling, word usage, and punctuation are followed and consistent with formal, scientific writing.
