Falls can be problematic for people of all ages especially for the elderly. Falls can cause serious traumas, for example, bruises, wound, and fractures and it affect parts of the body including the brain, the extremities and the internal organs. Since treatment of fractures is difficult at an older age, the best strategy for elderly population is to teach them how to avoid falls and involve them in determining fall prevention strategies. The Joint Commission created a Speak Up brochure on how to reduce the risk of falling. The brochure was created last 2010 and it is given to the public to inform everyone about safety and how to prevent falls in our daily lives. Summary of BrochureThe brochure explains why falls happen and gives information on how to reduce the risk of falling. According to the Joint Commission, “Each year, millions of people are injured by falls. People at risk of falling include hospital patients, nursing home residents and those who arerecovering from an illness or injury at home”.
