Self-Management of Post-Dialysis Fatigue End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) is an advanced stage of kidney failure where the kidneys are no longer operational or are unable to sustain their daily functioning. It is a growing disease that affects over 700,000 people in the United States (USRDS, 2014). The irreversible and threatening nature of this illness requires kidney transplantation or ongoing dialysis to sustain life. Hemodialysis is the most commonly form of dialysis treatment process used by ESRD patients. Though hemodialysis is a convenient and reliable means for blood filtration, it however often results to extreme fatigue. Many research studies have suggested fatigue as one of the most common and debilitating symptoms for ESRD patients receiving hemodialysis (Jablonski, 2007; Horigan et al., 2012). Many patients exhibit irregular and inconsistent patterns in expressing fatigue upon hemodialysis, which prompts the need to monitor how they cope with post-dialysis fatigue. Medication intake and dietetic nutrition are primary significant variables that patients considered in the self-management of post-dialysis fatigue (Stark et al., 2011). This raises the question of whether adherence or non-adherence to dietetic nutrition and medications helps alleviate the effect of fatigue in dialysis patients over time. Horigan, A.
