Statement of the Problem

The main problem is that scarcity of FNPs has undermined both the scope and quality of their intervention. Many health cases that deserve professional attention are left unattended because of the challenge of scarcity. The low ratio between FNPs and patients fosters the impression of gross sufficiency, which is sure to compromise family health in the long-term (Wilson et al, 2015). At the core of this problem is then the need to devise strategies of enhancing the positive impact of FNPs on the society (Stanik-Hutt, J. et al., 2013).

This study will help in the elaboration of insights regarding the manner in which FNPs can utilize their knowledge for solving the identified problems. Bridging the gap between knowledge and practice is crucial for upgrading the patient satisfaction (Wilson et al, 2015). Uplifting the efficiency of the FNPs is a measure that is intended to broaden their scope of average so that a significant percentage of the population is sufficiently catered for. It will also address the need to establish highly efficient delivery systems that could be relied upon to enhance the capacity of the nurse, in order to engage meaningfully with the patients’ demands.

The purpose of this study is to suggest solutions to the problem of scarcity and inefficiency of FNPs. The study is based on the acknowledgement of the fact that the diminishing supply of FNPs against the growing demand of their service is a serious challenge to family health and public health. The study will rely on a wide range of published literature to explore some of the solutions that can help to uplift the contribution of FNPs to the problems within their area of specialization. The second purpose of the study is to contribute to research literature on the role and impact of FNPs.

Possible Research Questions

· What is the relationship between the availability of FNPs and the overall quality of family-focused care?

· Is there any association between the level of training and experience of FNPs and the degree of patient satisfaction?

· How does motivation and model of care help or undermine the overall quality of family-focused care?

PICOT Question

Would enhancing the capacity of FNPs to provide quality family-focused care through capacity building, in comparison to other healthcare providers, help in ensuring greater access to quality and affordable family-focused care?
